Recycling can transform waste into new products or raw materials, preventing the amount of waste accumulated in landfills from increasing and reducing the consumption of new resources. In Tulum, this is very important!
However, not everything can be recycled in Tulum. Private initiatives, along with the municipal government have gotten together to attack this problem. Here you have a list of the items you can and can not send to your recycling bags:
What is recycled:
- Glass (bottles and jars)
- Plastics (containers of detergent, shampoo, etc, covers of all kinds, water bottles)
- Metal (Cans, beverage bottle caps, wires, wires, nails, tubes of toothpaste, aluminum, copper and others)
- Paper (newspapers, magazines, other papers, cardboard boxes, etc.)
- There is also a special section for batteries and tech waste (equipment, mouse, printers, etc.)
- Tetrapack
You can not recycle:
- Mirrors
- Lightbulbs
- Toys
- Plastic or cellophane wraps
- Plastics marked “PLA”
- Foam or Unicel
- Disposable diapers
- Toilet paper or napkins
- Laminated paper
Everything has to be delivered clean and as compressed as possible at the Los Árboles dumpster area, separated in these 5 categories:
- Plastic
- Glass
- Paper
- Aluminum
- Everything else
Also, Tulum has started taking recycling seriously. Every month, you’ll find Tulum Recycles gathers in main points in town for the “Reciclatón”, where you will be able to recycle many more items.
